Nefer, daughter of the former high priest of the temple, endures fifteen years of disguise as a blind, insane slave painter after her parents are murdered.Prince Tutmos comes to the temple to break their engagement, only to be dragged into a tangled web of conspiracies. Nefer leverages his royal power to escape her cage. Step by step, she exposes the treasonous crimes of Panehesy, the corrupt current high priest who colludes with foreign enemies. At the grand sacrificial ceremony, she strips the false goddess of her disguise and retakes divine authority. After quelling internal turmoil and foreign invasions, Tutmos offers his entire kingdom as a betrothal gift to marry Nefer, unifying royal power and theocracy at last.
