For six years, Claire Whitmore tests her husband, Adrian Moretti, to prove he cannot love anyone. Then she discovers Lily Carter in his hidden world and in Hudson Gardens, the apartment Claire renovated for nearly six million dollars. Adrian forgets their anniversary, shields Lily, and treats Claire with distance. Claire cuts her hair, files for divorce, leaves for San Diego, and chooses freedom.
